Indian in the cupboard

I went to a pretty much white school there were a couple other tan and black kids and everyone knew who they were. so it wasn't a bad thing being different but at the same time it was.
I would say being Indian in a pretty much white school is controversial, but made me think i wouldn't want to be any other color. Being Indian at school i would get alot of the same questions like what type of Indian are you like American Indian or red dot Indian, do you get money, and how much money. getting the same questions from about everyone. You get a sense of how people feel about Indians by how they respond when i say I'm Indian some think casino and some think free fishing and hunting or free money. im not saying being indian in school is bad just different by what i can tell.

  1. Dom, just because you are a Indian dont get so down on yourself. I think that you are a great person in your own way. You have meet obsticals in your life and have overcome them. Don't let simple comments get you down or hard on yourself. You are better than they are. Remeber that and be safe in your quest.

  2. My school was a white school as well, but we did have a couple blacks and a mexican. I bet when people always ask you if you get money and stuff you probably get annoyed and just want to tell them to shut up

  3. Yea man I know it sucks at times, but you probably feel proud that you are different. And another example was my little T.C. christian high school. We had 1 black and 6 Koreans. And everyone knows their names. I know exactly what you mean.

  4. What an interesting post. I have some questionsf for you though: where did you go to school? Why do you say being one of the only non-white kids made you not want to be any other color? Did you feel that you suffered from being non-white or did you just get some stupid questions? What was it like when you moved up here? Did you have more non-white classmates? Do you feel more like you fit in or not?

I'd love to hear more about your experiences as a "tan" guy at school.
